Diamond vs Silicon Carbide Lapidary

In this video I chat about some of the pros and cons of using either diamond or silicon carbide(SC) lapidary wheel
In my opinion diamond lapidary wheels are better for almost every application however I do enjoy using SC when it is effective

I use diamond wheel on stones harder then a 6 on the mohs and though SC wheels will cut and polish stones harder then 6 to me I feel like it is not worth replacing belts and the extra time
Diamond hard wheels can be had cheaply often under 50$ and always out preform there SC hard wheel counterparts
SC polishing belts usually on get as fine as about 1000grit however diamond wheel can be found as high as 1,000,000grit

Silicone carbide(SC) in my experience has proven to be very effective at carving stones softer then 6 on the mohs
I SC works very well while carving turquoise and opals
SC expandable wheels can come in very comfortable widths that can be said for most diamond wheels
My expandable wheel is 6″-2.5″ and some get even larger such as the Bull Wheel which has a 12″ wheel and belts!
