In this video I chat about about a few reasons to buy a 6″ or 8″ lapidary machine
Personally I enjoy 8″ machines when ever I can use them
8″ six wheel complete machines tend to have a wider spacing between wheels then 6″ versions, 8″ wheels cut faster then there 6″ wheel counterpart and though 8″ wheels cost more money they last longer and to me are worth the extra cost
6″ six wheel complete machines usually have less space between wheels though poly arbors and other two wheel 6″ machines usually are designed to have plenty of space on all sides for carving
Though price may not be a issue for some I personally end up buying more 6″ machines then 8″ because they are cheaper, I often find 6″ machines used for around 200$
I also sometimes use 6″ wheel even on 8″ machines because they are cheaper , the 80grit 6″ diamond wheel on my little blue lortone in the video cost only around 40$
There are other reasons to choose one or the other and some may disagree with what I am saying but at the end of the day I believe if one is looking to buy a lapidary machine ,especially their first ,they should buy the largest 8″ machine of the highest quality they can afford
